Apologies to mobile users

I'm working on making it mobile friendly, I promise!

Part I - The First Life

I wasn't anyone special, in my old life. My parents were farmers. My magical ability (we call it harmony, the humans call it elfsong) wasn't particularly strong. My skills tests rated me for labor, and my endurance, for daylight.

I was, at best, durable.

It worked out well enough, I suppose. I liked being outside, and getting to travel, and everyone else preferred me 'somewhere else' and 'not causing trouble.' I started out in the forest rangers, which was very dull, except the few times it wasn't. Eventually they got tired of my inability to sneak through the underbrush, and rated me for sea patrol, presumably to cut down on the number of search parties for me. I liked this calling much better. I got to meet new people - new species, even. Humans in particular were a novelty, with their intense enthusiasm about everything, and ability to try new things without debating for ages first.

Lyramir was a twilight world - if there was a sun, we never saw it. The sky was always beautiful, with deep pinks and purples and greens dancing across it at its brightest, and the stars twinkling in vivid colors at its darkest. The seas reflected the colors, and in the Mirror Sea, it always felt like you were sailing through the sky itself.

All the color was in the sky. Everything else was bland and dull. We elves all looked alike. We were pale, our hair color ran all the way from translucent white to golden blonde, our eyes from gray to blue, with the rare greens of the noble families - those with the strongest harmony. We were a very close knit people, somewhat literally. We all shared a single aura, which was kept strong by the harmony of the Royals. We KNEW each other, and since we were immortal, we knew them for a very long time.

Oh, yes, you wanted to know what happened to bring me here. The thing is, I don't know. I certainly wasn't important enough to be privy to any warnings, and, well, there was no one around to tell me afterward. My guess is that beings more powerful than us had an argument. It happens. They start throwing magical energy at each other, not realizing or caring that hey, there might be a world or two in the trajectory. All I can say for certain is that one minute, we were transporting a high ranking official from one island to the other, the next, a flash of light and a terrible noise. Everything went white, then black. And then, well . . .
