Petite Avatars

Hi!

Hello?

Hey! Down here!

Let's go explore the smaller parts of Second Life. It's time to get Petite.

Left - Bare Rose - Luthien Outfit, A&A Tekesha Hair, JJ ballet flats, Right - A&A Filippa Hair, Dress Inga Sand Autumn Fae, wings - Will O' the Wisp - Evie's Closet

This rabbit-hole dive into smaller sized avatars is not about the Maitreya Petite body, but I will warn you that it will cause havoc in your searches. I'm talking about 'petite' bodies, which are much smaller than the average avatar. They're about 2 feet tall, a great size if you want to be a pixie or fairy. They are still big enough to fully customize your look.

It's a very niche market, so I will also be covering alternative clothes that will work with these bodies, and how to shop for non-mesh clothing for a mesh body.

As far as I can tell, there are two major Petite bodies, Yabusaka and Jinx.

The Yabusaka Petite Mesh Body

Cost: 1,500L

At the Yabusaka store on Marketplace. You can also find it at Petite Bare Rose.

Some notes:

  • This is an older mesh body.
  • You can alter its shape, but only to a certain extent. You can't do much with the face in particular.
  • It does not do well with Bento animations and poses.
  • You can wear objects, like wings and mesh clothing.
  • The body is not BOM enabled. It will need older, non-evoX skins that come with an Omega Applier.
  • You can't change the eye color, and will have to search for 'Petite eyes' on Marketplace if you don't want the blue eyes it comes with.

I missed the transition period from system to mesh bodies in Second Life, so I had to stop and figure out how to use appliers. Fortunately my oldest avatar had a variety of skins in her inventory. If you don't like the skin the body comes with, you're going to need to dig for a non-evoX skin with an Omega applier.

Eyes
I tried a few of my alternate mesh eyes and there is a limit to how small you can size something. I could not get them small enough.

Extras

Jeannette's Joint has an additional male head.

Fallen Gods has packaged sets of the Yabusaka body. Each one comes with 3 outfits, 3 styles of head, 3 skintones and some HUDS. I could not get the demo to work with other Omega skins or clothes.

I am assuming that if Fallen Gods has a packaged complete avatar, so do other sellers, but I am concentrating my post on the two major bodies.

Clothes

Mesh clothing may be labeled as Petite, Petites Mesh, or Yabusaka. The body is Omega ready, so you can also use normal avatar size clothing that is both modifiable and has an Omega applier.

What IS an Omega applier?
This is a HUD menu you wear and click to apply skin or clothing to an avatar.  You will have to put on a uni-suit type dealy for clothing layers first. Omega bodies and suits have three layers in it.  You'll see these in your purchase folder, called 'omegaclothinglayer', 'lashandmakeuplayer,' and 'makeup&clothingalphahud.'  I am still trying to work out the right clicking order to get it to work (sometimes it's very slow), so I will come back and add more details when I figure it out.

Shops with Mesh Clothes for the Yabusaka Body

This is not a definitive list, but a good starting point. I did my shopping with fairies/pixies in mind.
This list is accurate as of March, 2026. Items with an asterix  *  also carry men's clothing.

Boudoir Petites (hair/headdresses, too)

Carriage Trade*

Caverna Obscura

Ema's store (also has skins)

Evie's Closet

FANTAVATAR & MOONSTRUCK * (also has Petite sized hair)

Kai Ana* (also has shoes)

Lilliput's

Lovely's

Nita Bracken

Nocturne Skies

PatchWork Heart

Petite Boudicca

Pooka's*

Shar's Petites

Wishbox

Whymsical Marketplace* - also has skins

The Jinx Petit Ruth and Petit Roth Bodies

Found at: The Petite Village (not the main Jinx store)

The body and head are sold separately:

Male Roth Body (with head): 200L

Female Ruth Body: 200L (head is not included)

Female Ruth Head: 899L

Some details:

  • This body IS BOM capable, which really opens up a lot of options in terms of clothing. It is NOT Omega ready.
  • It comes with an Alpha HUD, but it's a little confusing.  Don't click on the body shape, click on the color blocks around the body shape that correspond to the parts on the body shape.
  • The eyes can be changed with system eye textures.
  • You can alter its shape, but only to a certain extent. You can't do much with the face in particular.
  • It responds to Bento animations and poses.
  • You will need older BOM skins with this body - it does not work with EVOX face skins.

There are not as many clothing options, and they cannot wear mesh clothing made for the Yabusaka body. However, they can wear regular BOM clothing and older system clothing. Be sure to look for clothing that is modifiable.  You will have to resize them yourself, and that can take a while if there are a lot of pieces.

Jinx also has a bunch of fun add-ons for the Jinx body. You can be a petite centaur and more! You'll find those in the shop with the Petite bodies.

Shops with Mesh Clothes For the Jinx Body

I think this may be a definitive list as of March 2026.  If you know of more, please comment!

The Petite Village  (in-world link)

Ema's Store

Sharodie's Design/Shar's Petites

Thread & Nest (more items at The Petite Village)

Designs by Isaura* In world, look carefully, there's a mix of Jinx and Yabusaka. Also has hair!

BOM/System Body clothing that work well on the Female Jinx Body

Some shops that carry BOM/system clothing meant for regular size bodies that can also be used for Jinx:

Inga Wind Clothing: The link goes to a free fairy outfit. The wings were not resizable, but I was able to resize the skirt. I am assuming the same is possible for their other, older clothes. The textures are beautiful! Sort by Older Items First and check out some of her other styles. Shop with caution! I've got some tips below.

Evie's Closet  Do NOT get anything marked Petite here, unless you are shopping for the Yabusaka body.  For the Jinx body, sort by older items and look at the first 3 to 4 pages. In particular, Will O' The Wisp. Read carefully before purchasing. Sometimes it's hard to tell if something is mesh.

Sn@tch - For a modern look. I liked them when they still had an inworld store, and I think I got my first mesh shirt from them. Sort by Oldest first and read carefully to find non-mesh options.

Moonstar Choc Drops Dress
Solange -  The older items upstairs in the clearance section (mostly silks and erotic dance outfits) are copy/mod for system bodies, and can be resized.

The Muses - Artistic and fantasy oriented, the Muses also usually give away free BOM layer clothing pieces at events like Shop N Hop and The Engine Room.

MiaMai - Another next-generation Bom making vendor who frequents major shopping events. Always try the demo!

Pas De Deux - Some lovely fairy outfits at a budget price.

Hide and seek: Head over to Ajuda Brasil's freebie section and do an area search for 'Moonstar' and/or 'Choc Drops'.  It's a really cute, free dress that is easy to resize. It comes with an Omega applier so it also fits on the Yabusaka body. Currently available as of March 2026.

Bom/System Male Clothing that will work well on the Jinx Body:

Madison's Creations - Fantasy/medieval clothing for men and women. Sort by 'price - low to high' to find a few free gift outfits. The textures look better in person. Nearly everything in this shop should be wearable by a Jinx body if you have the patience to resize.

C&N Medieval Designs - Fantasy/medieval outfits for men and women, I am covering only the men here. Read carefully, stick to the 25L section, and try the demos!  Daniel and Caesar worked well for both my Jinx and Yabusaka bodies, as it came with both system clothing and an Omega applier. I was able to resize everything but the gloves. I am reasonably certain Warg and Merek will, too. There may be one or two items that won't work.

Damselfly - For modern men's clothes. They mostly sell hair, but unfortunately it has a lower size limit that is still too big for the Jinx head.

Hair

Petite size Avatar wearing older system clothing, skin, and hair

FANTAVATAR & MOONSTRUCK and Nita Bracken both have a wide selection of Petite-sized hair. Most other vendors only do on or two styles, so search for Petite Hair in the Avatar Accessories section.

Any non-rigged, resizeable and/or modifiable hair should work, but you'll need patience for most resizing. Some hairs (like at Damselfly) do not shrink down enough to fit the head.

My favorite hair for this is Alli & Ali's shop. They have a few mesh hair offerings that are rigged and can't be moved or resized, but the rest are all fully editable and have resizers. Grab demos in-world for a free hair in a single color.

Skin

This was a harder search.  I was lucky because my accounts are older.  A lot of skin stores have closed, or completely dumped their old products for the new ones.

For both bodies, you will need non-EvoX skins. They are all-in-one, so you don't need to buy the face skin separate from the body.

Here's a few low cost options:

Nuve still has women's system skins available in their group gifts - good for Jinx. They also have a free skin tinter you might want to pick up.

Pink Fuel has a selection of female skins with Omega appliers in store - good for Yabasuka.

7 Deadly S(k)ins is no longer around, except for a few random male and female skin listings on Marketplace, but if you picked up anything from their shop, check your folders for the Omega appliers.

London Town has a freebie store with a lot of older stuff in it that should work for Jinx. Sift through and see what you like!

This in-world shop had some nice free male skins.

Free Male Skins with Omega Appliers for the Yabusaka body

Akool has a free skin with Omega applier on Marketplace.

There are also several Omega male skin appliers in-world at Ayuda Virtual, including Black and Asian options.  You will need 1 linden to buy, but it will be returned to you.

Fingers and Toes:

Regular skins may warp a bit around the fingers and toes, so also check out my post about how to fix that problem here.

Keywords to look for when shopping full size outfits for Petites

These are the words I look for when trying to figure out if clothing can be made to fit the Petite bodies. There is no standard for what information a vendor puts on their product, so this is an exciting and confusing treasure hunt every time.

Some listings will have multiple options in them, so don't immediately discount one.  Always get the demo if there is one. If there isn't, here's a tentative guide.

Will it Fit? - LIKELY YES
  • Omega applier - This will work for the Yabusaka body only
  • Sculpted and/or Flexi - the non-layer items are objects built in-world, not mesh
  • Copy/Mod - You should be able to resize it.  It may not be easy, but it's possible.
  • BOM Layer - if it actually says BOM, then it's probably a newer post mesh option worn on the skin layer. Be mindful, sometimes they are combined with mesh items.
  • Jacket layer/shirt layer/pant layer/etc - This usually indicates it's meant for a system body, and will work just like BOM. (it was BOM before BOM was called BOM.)
  • Jinx - If it says it's for Jinx, it will only fit Jinx.  If it says a more general Petite/Petites Mesh, it's for the Yabusaka body.

Will It Fit? - LIKELY NO
  • Mesh - So glad they stated it up front!
  • Fitmesh - No, but sometimes it's one of several options in the package
  • Rigged - Definitely mesh, meant for a mesh body
  • 'Classic Avatar' - This is a first generation Mesh outfit.
  • 'TMP / The Mesh Project' - this is a second generation Mesh outfit.
  • 'Standard Sizing', 'Sizes XS,S,M,L,XL' - this is a mesh outfit for a Classic Avatar - they may not call it that unless it came out after a later generation mesh body.
  • Maitreya, Lara, LaraX, Belleza, Signature, Slink, etc - this is a mesh outfit meant for a mesh body.

Other Keywords To Consider:

  • Resizer - usually used with sculpted items (pre mesh, built in world). Will save you a lot of time and effort! Outfits with lots of tiny details like buttons and grommets will be a pain to resize without a resizer. It may not be worth the effort.  Some resizers may not resize small enough to fit. Always demo!
  • Copy/Mod - can likely be resized if it's not mesh, make a copy first and edit that. Not all pieces can be resized, even if it says it's mod.
  • Glitch Pants - these are worn under flexi and/or sculpted skirts, so if your leg shows through when it be as noticeable.
  • Omega Applier - for the Yabusaka body.  It is often included along with the system layer clothing.

Thank you for going on this shopping trip with me!  I hope you find it useful. As always, I am not an expert and welcome tips and comments from someone who has been doing this much longer than me.  I did find a few old blogs in a web search, but they don't seem to have been updated since 2012 or so.

I am not being sponsored for this post, I am merely a maker of lists and figure, why not share them?
